This was Canoe the Wild’s 4th Allagash canoe trip this August. Beginning on Churchill Lake skipping the larger headwater lakes. We experienced rain, sun, thunder showers, listened to loons, watched an early morning moose feeding and viewed the night sky without light pollution!  We had first timers and Roy who did the trip 4 times (over 45 years ago) with the St. Croix Voyagers as a young teen. Back then he paddled the Allagash in a wood canvas canoe, slept in a canvas tent and nobody wore life jackets! Times sure have changed! St. Croix Voyager Groups would often get to the Allagash by paddling up Moosehead Lake from Greenville, portage into the West Branch of the Penobscot River via the Northeast Carry which is the route of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail, paddle up Umbazooksus Stream and portage gear and canoes via the Mud Pond Carry (1.7 mile) over to Mud Pond then into Chamberlain Lake. On some trips they paddled and dragged upstream to Coucmogomoc Lake on their way to Allagash Lake then down Allagash Stream to Chamberlain Lake. It was an all summer affair! Trip Highlights from 2015. River trips including the Allagash canoe trip, St. Croix River, Cascapedia, NE Mistassibi river trip, Liard River Trip, Yukon Canada and Penobscot Rivers. also a few pictures from a moose photography outing and moose hunting wall tent base camps in the North Maine Woods. My 2016 schedule Maine canoe trips includes 3 day, 4 day and longer trips on Maine  and Canadian rivers. Most canoe trips are for the beginner, and no extreme workouts or conditioning required before you trip. An active life style including walking and stretching for a few weeks prior to the trip is helpful. Canoe trips are fully outfitted and guided. More information is available at Canoe the Wild.com

“Dave, thanks again for a fabulous trip. Every member of our party thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Your preparation and your execution in the field were impeccable in every respect. Everything met or exceeded our expectations. We are already talking about our next trip, hopefully the St. Croix with you next summer”. John Aromando, Poland, Maine

Another guided Maine canoe trip with Dave Conley and Canoe the Wild. This was a four day and three night canoe trip. A guided trip on the Allagash Wilderness Waterway is a great place to view wildlife and brush up on your canoeing and camping skills. Other trips that offer great scenery and easy whitewater include the St. Croix River near Vanceboro Maine. Choose the Bonaventure River in Quebec for more adventuresome whitewater and great wilderness scenery.
