East Grand Students enjoy a day trip on the St. Croix River from Vanceboro to Little Falls, 9.5 miles. High water made for a great trip with easy class I-II rapids. Trips can be from 1-5 days on the St. Croix, fully outfitted and guided with Maine Guide Dave Conley. Visit Maine Wilderness Trips with Canoe the Wild for more details on planning your next trip in Maine. Best time to go, May-October. No experience necessary.

Kenneth Winiarski and I have been busy working with the support of grants awarded to Canoe the Wild Guide service and Kenneth Winiarski from the Stetson Mountain fund grant and a nature based tourism grant provided by the Washington County  Unorganized Territory Tax increment fund (TIF) program that was established through a cooperative agreement between First Wind  and the Washington County government. Sunrise County Economic Council is the administrator of the funds. These past couple of weeks we have upgraded campsites on Baskahegan Lake. The sites have been cleaned, heavy duty cedar tables installed, fire pits rebuilt and fiberglass outboxes installed. This is a great spot to fish for white perch and small mouth bass. Camping is available on one of several island sites. Make this a multi day canoeing or kayak trip beginning near Topsfield off route 6 to Brookton-Danforth-Bancroft, 10 to 33 miles, 1 to 3 days and is best run in high water during the spring, early summer and in the fall.
